Men's Soccer Has Four Players Named All-Conference

Four  of Suffolk University Men's Soccer players earned recognition by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) by being selected to All-Conference teams for the 2009 season.

Sophomore Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) headlined the foursome earning GNAC Player of the Year honors. Lloyd, finished the season with 12 goals, second most within the GNAC, and 3 assists for a total of 27 points on the season. Lloyd led the Rams with 68 shots, including a team best 41 shots on goal.  In 16 games this season, Lloyd had at least one goal in 10 contests for the Rams. Lloyd's 0.8 goals per game average was ranked 35th best among all NCAA Division-III players and tops within the league. He also led the league with a 1.80 points per game average, which also ranked him 42nd in the country. Lloyd was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on two occasions this season (September 7, and September 16). Recognized in 2008 as the GNAC's Rookie of the Year, Lloyd has now scored 17 goals in 27 career games to go along with 6 assists for a total of 40 points in a two-year span. Along with being named Player of the Year, Lloyd was also a first team All-Conference selection.

Seniors Bernhard Lotterer (Lima, Peru) and Nick Celia (Hanson, MA) also join Lloyd on the GNAC All-Conference first team.

Lotterer, who put together a strong run at the end of the season, helped guide the Rams to a third-place finish within the league. Lotterer ended up finishing the season as the Rams' leader in points with 28, scoring 10 goals to go along with 8 assists. His point total of 28, was second-best within the GNAC. Lotterer saved his best play for the last three regular season contests scoring 7 times in the final games of the season. Lotterer had a career night on October 24th scoring four goals in a 5-0 win over Albertus Magnus College. Lotterer followed that up with a 6-point effort three days later against Johnson & Wales University with 2 goals and 2 assists, earning Player of the Week honors for October 26. Lotterer's 1.75 points per game was third-best within the GNAC. The senior forward wraps up a strong career for the Rams, in 58 games over four years, he amassed 55 points, scoring 22 goals and adding 11 assists.

Celia, finished off a strong career as well. Named GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2006, as well as being a first-team selection in 2008. In 57 career games for the Rams, Celia finishes with 26 goals and 19 points for a total of 71 points. This season the senior forward had 6 goals a 5 assists for 17 points, starting in all 16 games for the Rams. Celia's best game of the season came at a crucial time as the Rams burst by the Johnson & Wales Wildcats, 7-1 to secure a third-seed in the GNAC standing in their regular season finale. Celia had 2 goals and an assist in the game. He also scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over eventual GNAC Champion St. Joseph's College (Me.) back on September 26. Celia was named to the GNAC's Weekly Honor on September 28.

The efforts of the three forwards helped give the Rams' the 26th ranked offense in the nation scoring 2.75 goals per game, tops among the GNAC.

Junior goalkeeper Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, MA) also earned recognition by being named a third-team All-Conference selection. DeJesus, finished the season with a 7-5-2 record in goal for the Rams and 1.43 goals against average on the season. He also posted a .767 save percentage stopping 69 shots on the season. DeJesus posted two shutouts on the year, blanking the eventual GNAC champion St. Joseph's College (Me.) on September 26, 2-0 and Albertus Magnus College, 5-0 on October 24. DeJesus was named GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week on September 28, and was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on September 23.

Sophomore midfield Frances Guarino (Roslindale, MA) was also named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team. Guarino appeared in 11 games for the Rams, and earned his way into a starting role, starting the Rams' final four games. He registered one assists on the season.
