Lloyd Leads Rams to 4-1 Victory over Lions

Somerville, MA - Sophomore Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) scored twice as the Suffolk University Rams (1-0 overall) topped the Eastern Nazarene College Lions (0-1 overall) by a 4-1 margin to start off the 2009 season. The reigning GNAC Rookie of the Year converted on a penalty kick  with five minutes left in the first half for his first goal of the fall, and gave the Rams a 3-1 edge over the Lions. Lloyd added his second tally of the day four minutes later converting on a pass from senior Bernhard Lotterer (Lima, Peru).

The Rams spent much of the day on the on the offensive attack as they put out 10 shots on goal. The speedy Lloyd had four of those shots. Freshman Ben Rollins (Lee, NH) scored his first collegiate goal, and the Rams' first goal of the season in the game's fifteenth minute. Rollins took a pass from Lotterer and put the goal home from his left side 30 feet out from the net. Freshman Carlos Flores-Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain) then put the Rams up 2-0 scoring his first ever college goal on a rebound shot from senior Arman Palian (Belmont, MA).

Sophomore Corey Knudsen (W. Wareham, MA) scored the Lions' lone goal as he took advantage of a Rams' turnover in front of their own net to beat goalkeeper Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, MA).

Lotterer finished the game for Suffolk with two assists. The senior appeared to have scored the game's first goal on a spectacular scissors kick play five minutes into the first half, but the play was waived off as he appeared to be offsides.

Suffolk plays again on Tuesday evening as they host the UMass-Boston Beacons at Dilboy Stadium. The gamewill be played at it's originally scheduled time at 3:30pm.
