No. 14 Endicott Slips Past Men’s Hockey, 1-0

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk men's hockey fell to No. 14 Endicott, 1-0, in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink

HOW IT HAPPENED
Endicott snuck onto the scoreboard at the 14:37 mark of the middle period. In transition, John Goldowski put away a feed from Jack Costanzo to give the Gulls the 1-0 go-ahead. James Davenport helped set up the game-opening strike by passing out of the visiting team's own zone.  

CJ Hapward kept the one-goal margin in tact when he stopped Jackson Sterrett's penalty shot 1:22 into the third period. 

From there, the Rams picked up the pace in the attempt to comeback and tie the game up. Suffolk peppered Ryan Wilson with shot after shot including four in the final 1:53 seconds when the blue-and-gold had an extra skater and was on the power play. Endicott's goalie did not let a puck past the line to seal Suffolk's 1-0 setback fate.   

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Hapward had 29 saves in the setback with 16 in the final 20 minutes.
  • Wilson finished with 33 stops, including eight in the third period.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk held a narrow edge in shots, 33-30. 
  • The Rams also won the face-off battle, 35-32. 
  • The Rams defense blocked 22 shots compared to the Gulls' 11 blocked shots. 
  • Suffolk was unable to take advantage of its six power play opportunities.

A home-and-home series with No. 7 Curry next weekend. The Rams will visit Canton, Massachusetts Friday, Jan. 31 for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop before hosting the Colonels Saturday, Feb. 1 at 6:10 p.m.
