BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk men's hockey's goaltender CJ Hapward was recognized by the league as the Conference of New England (CNE) Goalie of the Week, the league office announced.
The award comes on the heels of a 3-0-0 week for Hapward and the Rams that included back-to-back conference shutouts with a 0.67 goals against average (GAA) and a 97.4 save percentage.
The netminder from West Caldwell, New Jersey, opened the week with a 36-save effort in a 4-2 win over Wesleyan Sunday.
He and the Rams rode that winning momentum into its home-and-home conference series with Johnson & Wales. In Eastie on Friday, Hapward had 22 saves in the 1-0 cleansheet and turned aside 17 shots a day later in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, in the identical result.
The weekly accolade is the first for Hapward as a Ram. It is the first time weekly award for the blue-and-gold since Jake Grace was tabbed the league's rookie of the week Dec. 4, 2023. He is the first goaltender to pick up a weekly distinction since Cal Wilcox garnered goaltender of the week Dec. 12, 2022.
Hapward and the Rams are away from action until the New Year when it travels to Wesley Chapel, Florida for the Tampa College Hockey Invitational. Suffolk opens the tourney Friday, Jan. 3 against Albertus Magnus at 4:30 p.m.
