CANTON, Mass. – The Suffolk men's hockey's team's 2021-22 season ended Saturday night as Curry poured in two unanswered goals spread out over the second and third periods, respectively, for the fourth-seeded Colonels to setback the fifth-seeded Rams, 2-1, at the Canton Ice House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Just over eight minutes into the action, Jared Newell fired off a slap shot from the right corner of the blue line towards Curry's cage. The rebound bounced back to junior Alex Kolowrat, who swiftly passed to his classmate Devin Lowe on the opposite side of the net. Lowe poked the puck past Reid Cooper to give Suffolk the lead at the 8:24 mark. 

The teams played evenly for the majority of the middle period until Timmy Kent found the back of the twine with 2:11 left before the second intermission to even the playing field at one-goal apiece. 

Things stayed locked at 1-all until the 12:17 mark of the final frame when Alexander Bouchard scored his first goal of the season at just the right time to push the Colonels in front, 2-1.

The Rams had to play the catch-up game from there, however, two penalties forced Suffolk to skate with a player down four of the final eight minutes of regulation.  

Once the penalties were successfully killed, Cal Wilcox was called from the pipes to the blue-and-gold's bench with 51 seconds left on the clock to give Suffolk an extra-skater boost. The Rams managed to get two shots off in the final seconds, one went wide the other was blocked by Mike Pellegrini to lock up the season-ending loss.  

NETMINDER NOTES

• Wilcox wrapped up the action with a 45-save effort. He saved 95.7 of the shots he faced. 
• Cooper registered 14 saves in the postseason win.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Lowe scored Suffolk's only goal. 
• Kolowrat and Newell had one assist apiece. 
• The Colonels over powered Suffolk in shots, 47-15. 
• Curry won the face-off battle as well, 40-30. 
• Neither team scored on the power play. Suffolk went 0-for-7, while Curry went 0-for-3.  

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk skated in the CCC semifinals for the second time, first since 2016-17. 
• The Rams played in the CCC playoffs as the fifth seed for the first time.
