Skidmore Skates Past Men’s Ice Hockey, 4-1

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. – Four unanswered goals pushed Skidmore past Suffolk men's ice hockey on Saturday evening at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink in NEHC action.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Skidmore 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-10-2, 1-7-2 NEHC) | Skidmore (9-4-4, 5-3-2 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Skidmore started with early pressure as a result of two power plays. Cal Wilcox and the Rams were able to hold off the early attack from the Thoroughbreds.

The Rams went on a power play of their own with just 4:21 remaining in the first frame and would break the deadlock shortly after the man-up advantage began. Griffin Clark came forward in transition after being played through with quick passing from Brian Brooks and Billy Roche. Clark picked out the roof of the net going over the glove of the Skidmore netminder Brandon Kasel to give Suffolk a 1-0 edge at the first intermission.

Skidmore would respond straight out of the break with a power play goal of its own. Austin Rook received a pass at the blue line wristing it through traffic and finding the nylon to level the playing field at 1-all. The visitors would turn the game around a few minutes later. A long pass up the boards from Misha Mrtochek found Owen Campbell in stride on the left side for a one-on-one with Wilcox. Campbell beat the goalie blocker side with a quick shot from the faceoff circle and put away what would be the eventual game winner.

Skidmore would take a 3-1 lead into the locker room with Callahan Johnson getting on the scoresheet. After a faceoff, Johnson fired a one-time effort that deceived the Suffolk goalie and found the back of the net.

Insurance came for the Thoroughbreds at the midway point of the third period. Skidmore scored its second power play goal of the night as Campbell notched his second of the day with help from William Brochu and Reid Russel for the final 4-1 decision.
