Salve Regina Upends Men’s Hockey, 6-0

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – The Suffolk men's hockey team suffered at 6-0 setback at Salve Regina in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Portsmouth Abbey.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Salve Regina put in goals in a 1:35 span in the first frame and the Seahawks goaltender Blake Wojtala staved off the Rams' 11 first-period attempts to give the hosts a 2-0 cushion after the first 20 minutes. 

Suffolk attempted to rally, but the Seahawks just built on their first period momentum in the second stanza with goals from Jonathan Felteau, Pat Thompson, his second of the day, and Nick Cyr to push their advantage to 5-0. 

Down the stretch the Rams were unable to capitalize on of its their 32 opportunities and Salve Regina's Connor Bechtel struck with five minutes remaining for the final 6-0 score. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • The Seahawks held a slim edge in shots, 34-32, while Suffolk had an advantage in faceoffs, taking 36 of the contest's 71. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Kevin Venturoso earned the nod in net for Suffolk. Through 40 minutes of play, the senior netminder faced 22 shots, saving 17 and letting in five. 
  • Will Ribas saw the first action of his collegiate career. In 20 minutes of relief effort, the rookie made 12 saves and gave up on score. 
  • Wojtala was the backstop in the Seahwaks win thanks to a 32-save, shutout effort, to improve to 3-2-0 on the year.
