Hockey Continues Winning Ways With 3-1 Victory Over Western New England

The Suffolk University Hockey team scored three unanswered goals to up their win streak to four games to start the 2014-15 season as they defeated the Western New England University Golden Bears 3-1 on Saturday in ECAC Northeast action.

Down by a goal with four minutes remaining in the second period, senior Tim Sprague (Plymouth, Mass.) opened the scoring for Suffolk as he knocked in his second tally of the season with an assist from sophomore Simon Leahy (Milwaukee, Wis.).

Midway through the third period sophomore Brett Lawson (Mildford, Mass.) would put in the eventual game winner, unassisted at the 10:01 mark to put Suffolk up 2-1.

Senior Shaughn Shields (Anchorage, Ala.) would add an empty net goal with three ticks on the clock as Suffolk now improves to 3-0 conference mark on the year.

Junior Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mich.) made 31 saves in the victory for Suffolk.

Suffolk held a 40-32 edge in shots in the contest.

Suffolk will be back in action again on Wednesday evening as they travel to Nichols College for an 8:00pm faceoff time with the Bisons.

The Rams will be back at home next Saturday, November 22 as past of "Gold Rush" Night when they host Becker College. Those in attendance will receive a free gold Suffolk University Athletics t-shirt. The game will be played at the Charlestown DCR Rink with a faceoff time of 7:10pm.
