Benedetto, Hockey Push Past JWU 2-1 In OT

The Suffolk University Hockey team extended their win streak to three games with a 2-1 overtime victory over Johnson & Wales University on Thursday evening in ECAC Northeast action.

Senior Tim Benedetto (Peabody, Mass.) scored the game winner with fifty seconds remaining in the extra period, his first tally of the season to lift Suffolk to their third straight win and second in league action.

Senior Richard Woodworth (Carlisle, Mass.) picked up the assist on Bendetto's goal which moved Suffolk to a 3-0 mark to start the 2014-15 season.

Neither team scored through the opening two period of the contest until the Wildcats got on the board midway through the third when sophomore Ben Brouillard (Somerset, Mass.) scored a shorthanded goal.

Suffolk would get on the board two minutes later as they were awarded their second power play of the period.

Senior Tim Sprague (Plymouth, Mass.) would take advantage of the extra man when he put in his first goal of the year at the 12:25 mark. Sophomore Simon Leahy (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Justin Selep (Pittsburgh, Pa.) would pick up assists on the play.

Suffolk would hold a 32-29 edge in shots in the contest, including a 3-2 advantage in the extra frame.

Junior Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mich.) would make 28 saves between the pipes for Suffolk for his third victory of the year in goal.

The loss drops the Wildcats to a 1-2 record on the season and 0-2 mark in conference action.

Suffolk will be back on the ice on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Western New England University for a 1:45 faceoff with the Golden Bears in ECAC Northeast action.
