Winter Sports Duo Named To Conference Weekly Honor Rolls

A pair of winter sport student-athletes were named to their respective conference weekly honor rolls on Monday, February 3rd.

Senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) of the Women's Basketball team was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Weekly Honor Roll after she averaged 20.3 points per game in three contests. Ruys scored 25 points on Thursday evening as Suffolk defeated Worcester State University, 56-47. Ruys returned to action last Tuesday after missing several games with an illness and recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 75-61 setback at Bridgewater State University. Ruys rounded out the week with a 14-point effort in Suffolk's 76-63 loss to Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon. Through 14 games played this season, the Suffolk forward is fourth among GNAC players with a 16.9 points per game average. She is currently third all-time in Suffolk program history with 1,341 career points scored.

Senior Charlie McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.) was named to the ECAC Northeast Hockey Weekly Honor Roll as the senior forward netted three goals on the week. McGinnis scored both of Suffolk's goals in Wednesday's 3-2 setback to Wentworth Institute of Technology. He added his third tally of the week on Saturday as he tied the game with 3:39 left in regulation before Suffolk fell to Johnson & Wales University 4-3 in overtime. McGinnis' eight goals on the season leads Suffolk and is currently the seventh best total among scorers in the ECAC Northeast on the season. In 18 games played this year McGinnis is second on the team with eight goals and five assists for a total of 13 points.  He has 35 career goals scored in 78 games played through four seasons.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday evening. The Women's Basketball team will host UMass-Boston at the Regan Gymnasium for a 7:00pm tip-off. The Hockey team will host Salve Regina University in an ECAC Northeast matchup with faceoff scheduled for 8:40pm at Steriti Rink in Boston's North End.
