SNHU Snaps Suffolk's Three Game Streak

Sophomore Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner 3:30 into the final period, to lift Southern New Hampshire to a 3-1 non-league college ice hockey victory over Suffolk Tuesday evening at the Charlestown Ice Rink.
The two teams traded first period tallies on a major man-advantage situation, as Collins provided the visiting Penmen (7-1) with a power play marker just 37 seconds after sophomore David Lazaro (Canton, Mass.) had given the host Rams (3-3-1) the early advantage with a shorthanded tally.  After a scoreless middle frame, Collins collected a feed from junior Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.) for his second goal of the night and 11th of the season that gave Southern New Hampshire the lead for good, and junior Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va.) sealed the visitors' seventh straight triumph with an insurance goal that came with 8:36 remaining to account for the final score.
Sophomore Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) added a pair of assists in the win for the Penmen, who also received a helper off the stick of freshman Jay Sylvia (Acushnet, Mass.), while sophomore Carmen Mastrangelo (Wellington, Fla.) assisted on Lazaro's tally in the setback for Suffolk.  Senior Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) picked up his fifth victory in six decisions by stopping 22 of 23 shots on the night for Southern New Hampshire, while sophomore Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mo.) made 29 saves in net for the Rams as the Penmen held a 32-23 advantage in shots on goal for the contest.
Suffolk heads to Waterville, Maine on Saturday afternoon to take on Bowdoin in opening round play of the Colby-Bowdoin Faceoff Classic beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Southern New Hampshire hosts the University of New England in opening round action of the PAL/Stovepipe Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Hooksett, N.H. that faces off at 4:30 p.m.
