Mastrangelo Nets a Pair in Hockey Tie

The Suffolk University Hockey team extended their unbeaten streak to three games as they skated to a 3-3 tie with the Becker College Hawks in ECAC Northeast action on the road on Saturday evening.

Sophomore Carmen Mastrangelo (Wellington, Fla.) scored a pair of goals as the Rams earned a point on the road to improve their overall season record to 3-2-1 as they picked up their fifth point in conference play thus far.

Down 2-0 in the second period, senior Charlie McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.) knocked home his third goal of the season at 12:45 to cut the Hawks lead in half.

Mastrangelo would even the game at 9:04 in the second period as he converted feeds from sophomores Connor McCarthy (Hanover, Mass.) and Mike Pantano (Bridgewater, Mass.) for his first goal of the season.

Suffolk would take a brief lead, when Mastrangelo and the Rams converted with the extra-man as his second tally of the season came at 11:37 on the power-play on an assist from sophomore Mike Cherpak (Enfield, Conn.).

Becker would even things up with two and a half minutes remaining in regulation as they scored a power play goal of their own when sophomore Tyler Aurrichio (Henderson, Nev.) knocked home his second tally of the evening.

Neither team would manage to score in the extra five minutes of overtime. Suffolk would hold a 43-28 edge in shots in the contest.

Sophomore Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mich.) would made 25 saves over 65 minutes of action for Suffolk.

The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they host Southern New Hampshire University in non-conference action in Charlestown at 8:40pm.
