Hockey Blanked By Wentworth, 3-0 on Monday

Junior Andrew Yarber (Livonia, Mich.) had a goal and an assist and freshman Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.) turned aside all 16 shots for his first collegiate shutout as the Wentworth hockey team blanked Suffolk, 3-0, in an ECAC Northeast contest at Matthews Arena.

The Leopards had several chances to score in the opening frame, however Suffolk sophomore netminder Brett Roman (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) kept Wentworth in check until 15 seconds left in the period when Yarber scored on the power play from freshman Mike Cox (Marlborough, Mass.) and sophomore Michael Heffner (Lloydminster, Sask.). Wentworth held a 17-4 shot advantage in the opening period.

At the 9:24 mark of the second period Wentworth took a 2-0 lead as Yarber and senior Reed Rushing (Seattle, Wash.) set up junior Cameron Gibson (Valencia, Calif.) for the power play tally. The Leopards added their third extra-man marker of the night with 9:24 left when freshman Devin Cobbold (Ottawa, Ont.) scored from junior Fred Gervasi (Mississauga, Ont.) and senior Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.).

Twelve of Miller's 16 saves came over the final two periods, while Roman made 25 saves for the Rams, who were outshot by a 28-16 margin. Wentworth also finished 3-for-7 on the power play on the night.

Wentworth has now won three in a row and is unbeaten in its last four contests. The Leopards improve to 13-8-2 overall and 9-2-1 in league play. Suffolk falls to 6-12-5 (3-6-3). Both teams are in action Thursday night as the Leopards are at Curry and the Rams are at Western New England.
