Hockey Falls To No. 11 Manhattanville

Freshman Paul Allan Bamberg(Lulea, Sweden) netted a goal and four assists for five points to lead 11th-ranked Manhattanville to a 9-2 non-league college ice hockey victory over Suffolk Tuesday evening at Steriti Rink.

 
Sophomore Mark Rivera(Belmar, N.J.) staked the visiting Valiants (11-4-1) to a 1-0 lead just 17 seconds into the contest, and after junior Charlie McGinnis(Hanover, Mass.) evened matters for the host Rams (5-7-3) at the 12:37 mark of the opening stanza, junior Craig Simchuk(Winnipeg, Man.) gave Manhattanville the lead for good just 13 seconds later with his first tally of the evening.  The visitors extended their advantage to 5-1 after 40 minutes of play with three second period tallies, including Bamberg's marker, and the Valiants iced their triumph with four third period goals, including the second of the night for both Rivera and Simchuk, who also added assists to finish with three points in the victory.
 
Senior Jason Bowles(Elkhorn, Man.) chipped in with a goal and two assists for Manhattanville, which also received tallies off the sticks of senior Brett Skalski(Exton, Pa.) and sophomores Eric McClure(Mitchell, Ont.) and Luke Challier(Vancouver, B.C.).  Freshman David Lazaro(Canton, Mass.) collected the other marker of the evening in the setback for Suffolk, which received assists off the sticks of sophomore Richard Woodworth(Carlisle, Mass.) and freshman ShaughnShields(Woodbridge, Va.).
 
Sophomore Alex Scola(Exeter, N.H.) picked up the win in goal for Manhattanville with 18 saves, while freshman Brandon Smolarek(Chesterfield, Mo.) made 31 stops over the first two periods of play for Suffolk, which also received 11 stops from freshman Brian Jacobs(West Chester, Pa.) in the third stanza.  The Valiants outshot the Rams by a 51-20 margin for the contest, including 36 shots over the opening two periods of action.
 
Suffolk hosts Western New England in an ECAC Northeast outing on Saturday afternoon at the Steriti Rink that faces off at 4:25 p.m., while Manhattanville heads to Aston, Pa. on Friday evening to take on Neumann in an ECAC West match-up that faces off at 7:00 p.m.
