Paul Weisser Selected to Play on Edge Sports Eurpoean Tour

Former Suffolk University Hockey player Paul Weisser (Longmeadow, Mass.) has been selected to play in the Edge Sports Europe Pro Hockey Exposure Tour later this summer. Weisser will travel to France as part of a 10-day, six game trip as a select US team will compete against professional teams in France. This will be the third hockey trip for Edge Sports overseas, as over half of their  past two rosters  have gone on to sign professional contracts in the Magnus League in France, which is considered to be the country’s top professional hockey league.

Weisser will depart from the US on August 12.  The team will tour Paris, before they open their six-game tilt against Reims of the Magnus League on August 15. The team will then play Strasbourg the following day, before the trip concludes with a four day tournament in Colmar, France to round out the 10-day journey on August 22.

Jim Tibbetts, who played collegiate hockey at Providence College and was a former French National Coach will be organizing the trip. The team will be coached by Mark Taylor, the current Head Coach at Hobart College.

Weisser concluded his four-year career at Suffolk during this past 2010-11 season. As a senior, Weisser appeared in all 24 of the Rams contests tallying 10 points on three goals and seven assists. In 96 career games for Suffolk Weisser scored 19 goals and added 33 assists for a career total of 52 points. His best season came during his junior year where he totaled 20 points scoring eight times with 12 assists. During the 2009-10 season Weisser led the Rams with three game-winning goals.

Alongside his strong contributions on the ice, Weisser was one of the Rams’ leaders off the ice. This past year Weisser was awarded with the Suffolk University Athletics Departmental Recognition Award. During the 2010-11 season Weisser served as an Assistant Captain, but also helped take the lead on the many off-ice contributions Suffolk made within the local community. This past season the Suffolk Hockey team members got together and wore special pink game sweaters to help raise Breast Cancer Awareness. The Rams donned the pink jerseys in a February 12 games against Nichols College. Weisser was also a part of the Hockey team’s Toys for Tots drive that the team organized on their last game before the winter break the past two seasons. With the holidays coming up the Rams accepted toy donations at their final home game and donated them to different Massachusetts charities. Weisser also made his presence known on campus serving as a student Ambassador in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Suffolk welcoming and providing information about the University to prospective incoming students.
