Hockey Nets Two ECAC Northeast Awards

The Suffolk University Men’s Hockey team had two players garner postseason accolades by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast. Senior goaltender Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection, while freshman Jon Stauffer (Landsdale, Pa.) was named to the All-Rookie team.

Rose finished the 2010-11 season posting an .897 save percentage while yielding a 3.56 goals against average starting 23 of the Rams’ 24 games between the pipes. Named the 2009-10 ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Year, Rose finishes his four-year career as the all-time leader in most statistical categories in Suffolk program history for goalkeepers. In 91 starts Rose posts a 38-47-6 record, while stopping 91 percent of the shots he faced, allowing 3.16 goals per game, while recording four shutouts in that period. Rose finished 2009-10 with one of the best statistical seasons ever put together by a Suffolk netminder. His .919 save percentage and 2.68 goals against average were the best in a single season in Suffolk’s program history. Rose also served as team captain this past season. Head Coach Chris Glionna praised Rose’s efforts over the past four years. “We will certainly miss Jeff both on and off the ice. His contributions to our team in net and in the locker room were cornerstones to our team’s success during his career here.

Stauffer finishes the season as the Rams’ leading point getter with 15 and was the Rams top goal scorer netting eight goals, while anchoring the Suffolk power-play from the blue line. On November 18, Stauffer became just the 27th player in NCAA Division III history to score at least three power play goals in a game as the Rams topped Salve Regina University, 8-4. Stauffer finished the evening recording five points, tallying the first hat trick of his career and also added two assists on the night as Suffolk tied an NCAA mark with eight power play goals. Stauffer’s four power play goals on the year were tied for 11th in the league, while his 15 points were 10th among ECAC Northeast defensemen. Stauffer also had the fifth most points scored in ECAC Northeast contests this year among rookies as he posted 13 points in 14 league games. Head Coach Chris Glionna spoke highly of Stauffer’s play as a freshman. “Jon took on a lot of responsibility this season as a freshman on defense and on the power-play and responded well with his high level of play. We’ll count on him to continue to learn the game and mature and look for him to continue to develop his skills and help bolster our team for the future.”

Suffolk finished the season with an 8-16 overall recording, while positing eight points in ECAC Northeast play with a 4-10 league mark, just missing the conference tournament.
