Hockey Suffers 3-2 Overtime Setback at hands of WNEC.

The Suffolk University Hockey team (8-16-0, 4-10 ECAC Northeast) had their playoffs hopes dashed in a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss at the hands of Western New England College (8-16-1, 5-9 ECAC Northeast) on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mass.

The Rams and Golden Bears entered the final game of the regualr season with eight total points, with the winner earning the sixth and final playoff spot into the 2010-11 ECAC Northeast playoffs.

Freshman Dan Monohan (Monroe, N.J.) scored his second goal of the game two minutes into the overtime period to propel the Golden Bears into next week's playoff tournament, and ending the Rams season.

Trailing 2-1 with ninety second remaining in regulation sophomore Robbie Donahue (West Bridgewater, Mass.) evened the game at 2-2 as he netted his third goal of the season after being set up by seniors Tom Coulstring (Whitman, Mass.) and Zach Barron (St. Louis. Mo.).

Both teams traded goals in the first period, with Suffolk opening the scoring at 5:25 as sophomore Andrew Monesi (Simi Valley, Calif.) tallied his fifth goal of the year.

Western New England tied the game when freshman forward Chris Connors (Albany, N.Y.) fired in a shot at the 11:05 mark as junior forwards Kory Grahl (San Diego, Calif.) and Rory Hansen (Noblesville, In.) earned the assists.

Monohan would get the Golden Bears a 2-1 lead as he scored midway through the third period.

Senior Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) made 33 saves in the loss for the Suffolk, including 14 in the third period.

Western New England held a 36-24 edge in shots on goal in the game.
