Hockey Stops Nichols 3-1

Hockey Stops Nichols 3-1

Senior Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) stopped 29 of 30 shots in net to lead Suffolk to a 3-1 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Nichols Saturday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

Sophomore Andrew Monesi (Boston, Mass.) snapped a scoreless tie with just 2:48 remaining in the second period to stake the host Rams (7-14, 3-8 ECAC Northeast) to a 1-0 advantage after 40 minutes of action, and goals off the sticks of sophomores Robbie Donahue (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Andrew Flynn (Stamford, Conn.) that came 1:41 apart in the first eight minutes of the final frame extended Suffolk's edge to 3-0.  Freshman Blake Bishop's (Parker, Colo.) tally with 3:27 remaining ended Rose's shutout bid and accounted for the lone marker of the night for the visiting Bison (11-11-1, 5-7 ECAC Northeast), as that goal was set up on feeds from sophomore Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis.) and freshman Josh DeLoach (Clearwater, Fla.).

Senior Zach Barron (St. Louis, Mo.) assisted on both third period goals in the triumph for Suffolk, which also received single helpers off the sticks of seniors Dan Dandreo (Swampscott, Mass.) and Paul Weisser (Longmeadow, Mass.) as well as freshmen Chris Boyd (Milford, Mass.) and Josh Goryl (Rochester, Mich.).  Rose made 23 of his saves over the first two periods of play for the Rams, who held a 33-30 advantage in shots on goal for the contest.  Freshman Dylan Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.) made 30 stops in the setback for Nichols, including 21 in the first 40 minutes of action.

Suffolk hosts Salve Regina in an ECAC Northeast outing on Monday evening at Steriti Rink in Boston beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Nichols hosts Western New England in an ECAC Northeast match-up on Wednesday evening in Harrisville, R.I. beginning at 8:10 p.m.
