SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior forward Paul
Weisser (Longmeadow, MA) scored
two goals and junior goalie Jeff Rose
(Collinsville, CT) made 31 saves
as Suffolk skated to a 3-1 decision over Western New England
College in
an ECAC Northeast men's hockey game Thursday night (Jan. 21) at
Smead Arena.
The Rams improved their record to 6-8-2 and 2-2-1 in the
conference
while the Golden Bears fall to 1-12-1 and 1-4 in the league.
All the scoring took place in the second period with Western New
England
College taking 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman forward Mark
Joyce
(Needham, MA) just 1:56 into the period. Freshman forward Blake
Lucier
(Scarborough, ME) and sophomore defenseman Joe Deptula (Anchorage,
AK)
had the assists.
The Rams tied the contest when freshman forward Andrew
Monesi (Boston,
MA) found the back of the net at the 6:58 mark with assists from
junior
forward Brian Phillps (Longmeadow, MA) and
sophomore defenseman Nate
Linard (Brighton, MI).
Weisser then scored what proved to be the game-winner at 15:33
as
freshman forward Andrew Flynn (Stamford, CT) and
senior defenseman Jeff
Spencer (Brentwood, NH) gained the assists.
Weisser gave the visitors a two-goal advantage with just 11 seconds
left
in the stanza as sophomore defenseman J. Andrew
Wein (Barnegat, NJ) and
senior forward Niles Moore (Columbus, OH) were
credited with assists.
Western New England College freshman goalie T.J. Fatse (Hampden,
MA)
stopped 35 saves in his second career start.
