Hockey Tops # 13 Wentworth, 4-2

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. --  Junior Paul Weisser (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored a pair of third period goals, including the game-winner with 6:48 remaining, as Suffolk erased a two-goal deficit to post a 4-2 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Wentworth Thursday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

The host Rams (9-10-3, 5-4-2 ECAC Northeast) upended the league's first place team for the second time in five days with the triumph, as the visiting Leopards (17-3-1, 9-2 ECAC Northeast) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage just 10:33 into the contest on a marker by freshman Mike Marrocco (Braintree, Mass.) that came less than three minutes into action as well as a shorthanded tally off the stick of sophomore Casey Shade (Anchorage, Ak.) midway through the opening stanza.  Senior Pat Welch (Dorchester, Mass.) sliced Suffolk's deficit in half with a goal 5:46 into the middle period, and Weisser evened matters for the hosts 3:57 into the final 20 minutes of action before netting the deciding marker on the power play after the visitors were whistled for too many men on the ice.  Welch's empty net goal with 27 seconds remaining iced the triumph for the Rams, who extended their unbeaten streak to three straight.

Welch added an assist to his two goals to finish with three points in the win for Suffolk, which also received a pair of assists off the stick of senior Niles Moore (Columbus, Ohio) as well as single assists from senior Brian Smusz (Daleville, Va.), junior Tom Coulstring (Whitman, Mass.) and freshman Jason Molle (Stoneham, Mass.).  Senior Martin Winzer (Nuremberg, Germany) assisted on both tallies in the setback for Wentworth, which received single helpers off the sticks of junior Geric Brodt (Anchorage, Ak.) and sophomore Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) in seeing its five-game winning streak come to an end.

Junior Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for Suffolk with a 14-save effort, while senior Justin Marriott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) made 26 saves in the setback for Wentworth as the Rams outshot the Leopards by a 30-16 margin for the contest.

Suffolk heads to Harrisville, R.I. on Sunday afternoon to take on Nichols in an ECAC Northeast outing that faces off at 3:30 p.m., while Wentworth hosts Becker in an ECAC Northeast
