Hockey Skates to 2-2 Tie with 12th Ranked Curry

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass.--  Junior Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) made 32 saves in goal as Suffolk battled 12th-ranked Curry to a 2-2 overtime tie in an ECAC Northeast ice hockey outing played Wednesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

The host Rams (2-5-2, 1-1-1 ECAC Northeast) received second period goals from freshman Andrew Monesi (Simi Valley, Calif.) and senior Pat Welch (Dorchester, Mass.) to take a 2-1 lead after senior Sean Sylvester (Randolph, N.J.) had staked the visiting Colonels (6-0-1, 2-0-1 ECAC Northeast) to a 1-0 first period edge.  Junior Ray Nicks (Surrey, B.C.) evened matters for Curry just 43 seconds after Welch's goal at the 15:53 mark of the second stanza, and that would prove to be the final marker of the contest, as neither team scored in the third period or overtime session.  Suffolk hit the post on a pair of occasions in the final 25 minutes of play, while Curry could not take advantage of a power play opportunity in the overtime period.

Senior Niles Moore (Columbus, Ohio) added a pair of assists in the draw for the Rams, while Monesi and Welch each collected helpers for the hosts.  Sylvester assisted on Nicks' tally for the Colonels, who also received a helper off the stick of freshman Connor Hendry (Calgary, Alta.)

Rose made 24 stops over the first two periods of play alone on the night for Suffolk, which had 14 shots in the third period and overtime combined.  Freshman Robert Dawson (Woodbury, Mich.) made 22 stops in net for Curry as the Colonels outshot the Rams by a 34-24 margin for the contest.

Suffolk heads across town on Friday evening to square off with Wentworth in an ECAC Northeast outing at Matthews Arena that faces off at 7:30 p.m., while Curry hosts Nichols in an ECAC Northeast clash on Saturday afternoon at Ulin Rink in Milton, Mass. that begins at 4:35 p.m.
