BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior Paul Weisser's
(Longmeadow, Mass.) goal with 53 seconds remaining in overtime
lifted Suffolk to a 4-3 non-league college ice hockey victory over
Assumption Sunday evening at Steriti Rink.
Weisser converted feeds from junior Zach Barron
(St. Louis, Mo.) and senior Joe Drago (Waltham,
Mass.) on the deciding tally for the host Rams (3-6-2), who
received a late second period marker from freshman Jason
Molle (Stoneham, Mass.) and a goal from fellow freshman
Andrew Flynn (Stamford, Conn.) with less than
eight minutes remaining in regulation to snap a 1-1 tie and take a
3-1 advantage. Sophomore Pat O'Kane's (Hollis, N.H.) second
shorthanded goal of the game with 4:25 remaining in regulation
enabled the visiting Ice Dogs (4-5) to pull to within one, and
Assumption took advantage of an extra skater in the closing minute
of the third period to even matters on sophomore Taylor Larsen's
(Blackstone, Mass.) tally with 21 seconds to play, setting up
Weisser's heroics in the extra session.
O'Kane's first shorthanded goal of the contest staked the Ice Dogs
to a 1-0 edge just eight minutes into the contest, but Suffolk
evened matters with a power play tally off the stick of senior
Nick Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) less than three
minutes later to forge the 1-1 draw after 20 minutes of action.
Weisser and Flynn each finished with a goal and an assist in
the win for the Rams, who also received a pair of assists off the
stick of Barron as well as single helpers from junior Dan
Dandreo (Swampscott, Mass.) and freshman Matt
Robertson (Whitman, Mass.). O'Kane added an assist
to finish with three points in the setback for Assumption, which
also received a goal and an assist from Larsen as well as a helper
from sophomore Kevin Glanzman (Massapequa, N.Y.).
Junior Ryan Mula (Waltham, Mass.) picked up the
win in goal with 37 saves in net for Suffolk, while sophomore Nick
Blanchette (Stuart, Fla.) made 25 stops in net for Assumption as
the Ice Dogs outshot the Rams by a 40-29 margin for the
contest.
Suffolk will be idle until Tuesday, December 29th when the Rams
square off with Southern New Hampshire in opening round play of the
UMass Boston Codfish Bowl Invitational at the Clark Athletic Center
beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Assumption hosts SUNY-Canton in

December 28th in Worcester, Mass. beginning at 7:35 p.m.
