Hockey Nets ECAC Northeast Awards

Boston, Mass. - After completing one of the best seasons in program history, the Suffolk University Hockey team picked up multiple honors by the ECAC Northeast Hockey league. The Rams who finished in third place overall in the league with an 8-4-2 in-conference record had five players named to All-Conference selections, as well as junior goaltender Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn./Valley (EJHL)) being named Goalie of the Year, and Head Coach Chris Glionna being named Coach of the Year.

Rose finishes 2009-10 with one of the best statistical seasons ever put together by a Suffolk netminder. His .919 save percentage and 2.68 goals against average are the best in Suffolk program history, while his 11 victories in goal are the second most ever. Rose set the previous record with 13 wins in 2007-08 during his freshman campaign. Rose finishes the year ranked second in the league in save percentage, fifth in goals against average and fourth in winning percentage (.568) with an overall record of 11-8-3. Rose was named ECAC Goalie of the Week consecutively during the final three weeks of the season, and once before on January 4.. That week Rose was also named Cod Fish Bowl Tournament Most Valuable Player. During the two-day tournament Rose stopped 83 of the 87 shots he faced, including a 52 save effort in the Championship Game, a 2-1 victory over host UMass.-Boston.  Rose was also named as a first-team All-Conference selection by the ECAC Northeast.

The Rams had two defensemen earn second team All-Conference honors by the ECAC Northeast; senior Nick Davis (Pittsburgh, Penn./Northern Mass. (AJHL)) and sophomore J. Andrew Wein (Barnegat, N.J./The Gunnery School)).

Davis, who served as one of the Rams' captains this season appeared in all 26 games scoring two goals and adding seven assists. Davis was ranked 17th in the league in defenseman scoring, netting five points in conference games this season. In his career, Davis tallied 51 points scoring 13 goals along with 38 assists in 102 career games.

Wein, finishes the season seventh in the team in points with 12, as he was third on the Rams in assists with 11. Wein was the fourth-leading scorer among defensemen in the league this past season with a 0.79 points per game average in conference games. He scored his lone goal of the year in Suffolk's 7-1 victory over Nichols College on February 13.

Suffolk also had a pair of senior forwards earn recognition as Niles Moore (Columbus, Ohio./Bay State (EJHL)) and Pat Welch (Dorchester, Mass./Bay State (EJHL)) were named to the ECAC Northeast Honorable Mention team.

Moore finished the season as Suffolk's leader in both points (26) and goals (15). He earned multiple honors during the season, twice from the ECAC Northeast as he was named Player of the Week on January 4 and was named to the Weekly Honor Roll on November 23. Moore opened the season being named to the Becker College Ice Breaker All-Tournament team and was named to the Cod Fish Bowl All-Tournament team. In the Cod Fish Bowl, Moore scored two goals in the Rams' 4-3 victory over the University of Southern New Hampshire and then added a goal in the championship game, as 2-1 victory over UMass.-Boston. Moore's 15 goals on the season ranked him 8th among the ECAC Northeast, while his 26 points were the 9th highest total in the league.

Welch finishes the season with 24 points, scoring 11 goals with 13 assists. Welch was previously named to the ECAC Northeast Weekly Honor Roll on February 8 after his two-goal effort against Curry College. Welch scored the game-winner that evening fifty-one seconds into the overtime period to give the Rams a 3-2 victory over the Colonels. Welch's 24 points ranked him 18 among all scorers in the ECAC Northeast, while his 11 goals were 12th best in the league. Welch also had two game-winning goals on the season.

Both Welch and Moore were tied for eighth in the league with power-play points, as both players posted nine points on five goals and four assists with the extra attacker.

The Rams finished the season winners of their last five straight regular season contests to post a 12-11-3 overall record. The Rams finish third among the ECAC Northeast with an 8-4-2 in-conference regular season record.
