Box Score

BOSTON, MA - Senior forward Niles Moore (Columbus, OH) netted the final two goals of the contest, including the game-winner to lead the Suffolk University men's ice hockey team over Southern New Hampshire University, 4-3, this afternoon in the first game of the opening round of the 45th Annual Codfish Bowl, the second oldest college hockey invitational in the country, at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of University of Massachusetts Boston.  The Rams improve to 4-6-2 and advance to the Codfish Bowl final for the first time in four appearances and will face off against UMass Boston in the championship game at 5:00 p.m.  The Penmen fall to 2-8-2 and will play in the consolation tilt tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. vs. Johnson & Wales University, which suffered a 3-1 defeat to UMass Boston.

Moore made Suffolk's only power play goal of the afternoon count when he potted a feed from junior forward Tom Coulstring (Whitman, MA) for his eighth goal of the season at the 6:05 mark of the third period to give the Rams a 4-3 edge.  Moore had just scored less than four minutes before that with his first tally of the game coming at the 2:32 mark of the final period on an assist from sophomore defenseman Nate Linard (Brighton, MI) and freshman forward Andrew Monesi (Boston, MA) to knot the contest at 3-3.

Freshman forward Jason Molle (Stoneham, MA) found Monesi for his third goal of the year just 70 seconds into the game for a 1-0 Suffolk lead, before freshman blueliner Jay Paradis (Salem, NH) combined with sophomore forward Anthony Dercole (Hamden, CT) to set up classmate Doug Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) for his second goal of the season to pull Southern New Hampshire even at 1-1 with 11:35 gone in the opening period.  The Rams reclaimed the lead just two minutes later when freshman forward Steve Drago (Waltham, MA) and junior defenseman Dan Dandreo (Swampscott, MA) hooked up with sophomore forward Ryan Fitzpatrick (Mission Viejo, CA) for his third marker of the campaign to give them a 2-1 edge.  The Penmen wasted no time in answering with the fourth goal of the period coming 70 seconds later, thanks to junior forward Brandon Sheehan's (Bedford, MA) first score of the year on a helper from junior forward William Toomey (Reading, MA) and Paradis to knot the score at 2-2 with 5:15 left to play in the first stanza.

Southern New Hampshire took its first lead of the afternoon with the only goal of the second period when senior forward John Frey (Westminster, CO) and junior defenseman Neil Adams (Gardner, MA) fed junior forward Troy Maybury (South Portland, ME) for his seventh goal of the season just 1:09 into the second period for a 3-2 Penmen margin.

Senior goaltender Jeff Rose (Collinsville, CT) stopped 31 shots to earn the victory for Suffolk, while senior goalie Shane Brooks (Kennebunk, ME) made 23 saves for Southern New Hampshire.

The Rams advance to tomorrow's finals as they will take on host UMass-Boston at 5:00pm at the Clark Athletic Center.
