BOSTON, Mass.-- Senior Jeff Chillson’s (Enfield, Conn.)
goal with 1:28 remaining in regulation lifted Westfield State to a
2-2 ECAC Northeast ice hockey overtime tie with Suffolk Thursday
evening at Streti Rink.
Chillson converted feeds from freshman A.J. Shiverdecker
(Kettering, Ohio) and sophomore Dennis Zak (Dover, N.J.) on the
tying tally for the visiting Owls (9-4-4, 6-3-3 ECAC Northeast),
who rallied from an early two goal deficit. A power play marker off
the stick of senior Mitch
Sabo (Bell Canyon, Calif.) and an shorthanded goal from junior
Mike Mondello
(Revere, Mass.) in the first 17:43 of action gave the host Rams
(3-10-2, 2-4-2 ECAC Northeast) the early two goal edge, but
freshman Jimmy Alexander’s (Braintree, Mass.) power play goal
with 32 seconds to play in the opening period sliced Westfield
State’s deficit in half, setting up Chillson’s late
heroics.
Juniors Casey Mignone (Ramsey, N.J.) and Mike Muolo (Stoneham,
Mass.) assisted on Alexander’s goal for the Owls, while
seniors Dan
Pencinger (Randolph, N.J.) and Kyle Cook (Chino Hills,
Calif.), junior Bryan
Smusz (Daleville, Va.) and sophomore Zach Scienzo (Concord,
N.H.) each notched helpers on the night for Suffolk.
Sophomore Ray Monroe (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made 31 saves, including
three in overtime, on the evening for Westfield State, while
sophomore Jeff Rose
(Collinsville, Conn.) made 19 stops in net for Suffolk as the Rams
outshot the Owls by a 33-21 margin for the contest.
Suffolk hosts Framingham State in an ECAC Northeast outing on
Saturday evening at Walter Brown Arena beginning at 6:15 p.m.,
while Westfield State hosts Western New England in an ECAC
Northeast match-up next Wednesday evening in Westfield, Mass.
Beginning at 8:15 p.m.
