Boston, MA -- Junior Niles Moore (Columbus, OH) put home a
power-play goal with seven minutes remaining in the 3rd period to
give the Suffolk University Rams (8-13-2, 7-6-2 ECAC Northeast) an
upset victory of the Nichols College Bison (19-3, 13-1 ECAC
Northeast). The Rams who continue to fight for a playoff spot in
the ECAC Northeast Tournament have now won four games in a row.
Nichols came into today’s games previously undefeated in
league play.
Senior captain Dan Pencinger (Randolph, NJ) got the scoring started
with three minutes remaining in the first period when he put home a
pass from freshman Nate Linard for his fifth goal of the
season.
Sophomore Matt Sayer (Brighton, MI) would even up the score at 1-1
four minutes into the second period for Nichols College. Sayer took
a feed from senior Ryan Gervais (Chicago, IL) for his first of two
goals in the game.
Nichols grabbed a 3-2 lead in the third period as they came out and
scored twice in the first four minutes of the period. Senior
forward Anthony Monte (Chicago, IL) converted on a Bison power play
when he took a feed from senior Jeff Bieber (Littleton, CO) for the
lead.
Suffolk would answer just two minutes later as senior John Rocchio
(East Greenwich, RI) scored a power play goal to even up the score
at 3-3.
With just over seven minutes remaining, Suffolk converted on
another power- play as Moore put home the game winner on a loose
puck in front of the net past Bison goaltender Jacob Rinn (Warwick,
R.I). The goal was Moore’s sixth of the season and first game
winner.
Junior Pat Welch (Dorchester, MA) added his fourth goal on the
season for Suffolk in the second period, and seniors Kyle Cook
(Chino Hills, CA) and Mitch Sabo (Bell Canyon, CA) each added two
assists for the Rams. Sophomore goaltender Jeff Rose (Collinsville,
CT) made 29 saves in the victory for his eighth win of the
season.
Prior to the game the Suffolk University Hockey team
honored the graduating members of the 2008-09 season.
