BOSTON, Mass.-- Senior Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, Calif.)
netted a goal and three assists, while sophomore Jeff Rose
(Collinsville, Conn.) stopped all 29 shots he faced for his third
career shutout to lead Suffolk to a 4-0 ECAC Northeast ice hockey
victory over Fitchburg State Saturday evening at Walter Brown
Arena.
Cook gave the host Rams (6-13-2, 5-6-2 ECAC Northeast) the only
goal they would need 4:11 into the second stanza on feeds from
Welch and freshman J. Andrew Wein (Barnegat, N.J.), and senior Dan
Pencinger (Randolph, N.J.) extended that margin to 2-0 with 7:19
remaining in the contest on assists from Cook and junior Pat Welch
(Dorchester, Mass.). Welch provided an insurance marker with
four minutes to play on helpers from Pencinger and Cook, and senior
Mitch Sabo (Bell Canyon, Calif.) closed out the Suffolk scoring
with a power play tally on feeds from Cook and senior Bill Galvin
(Canton, Mass.) with 1:13 remaining.
Rose made nearly half of his stops with a 14-save effort in the
second period for the Rams, as he posted a pair of blankings last
season in a January 2008 win at Framingham State (8-0) and a
February 2008 triumph over Southern New Hampshire (4-0).
Freshman Bobby Leiser (Monroe, N.Y.) made 19 stops in net in
the setback for the visiting Falcons (8-8-5, 5-5-3 ECAC Northeast),
as Fitchburg State outshot Suffolk by a 29-23 margin for the
contest.
Suffolk heads to Waterville Valley, N.H. on Wednesday evening to
take on Plymouth State in an ECAC Northeast match-up that faces off
at 6:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State hosts Johnson & Wales in an
ECAC Northeast outing on Wednesday evening in Fitchburg, Mass. that
begins at 7:00 p.m
