Suffolk Hockey defeats Salve Regina 5-3

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Senior Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, Calif.) scored two goals and dished out an assist to lead Suffolk University to a 5-3 win over Salve Regina University in ECAC Men's Hockey action Wednesday evening at Portsmouth Abbey Arena.

Classmate John Roccio (East Greenwich, R.I.) also recorded three points (1-2-3) for the Rams, who improved to 2-7-1 (2-3-0) with the win. Sophomore Bryan Russell (Essex Junction, Vt.), junior Tyler Trott (Rehoboth, Mass.), and junior Patrick Bambery (Braintree, Mass.) each scored for the Seahawks (1-7-2, 0-2-1 ECAC), who remain winless in their last four games (0-3-1).

With the game tied at two entering the third period, Rocchio put the Rams in front 3-2 just 39 seconds into the period. Cook stretched the lead to 4-2 at 11:45 before Bambery's fourth tally of the year brought Salve Regina to within a goal at 4-3 with 5:10 remaining in the third. With sophomore goalie Pat Enloe (Stuart, Fla.) on the bench for an extra attacker, junior Nick Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored into the empty net to seal the win.

Junior Mike Mondello (Revere, Mass.) opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 12:56 of the first period, but Russell evened the score at one at 16:03 off a feed from freshman Eric Spalt (Barnstable, Mass.). The goal was Russell's fifth of the season.

The Rams jumped ahead 2-1 on a power play goal by Cook at 6:10 of the second period, but the Seahawks rallied back to even the score at two with a goal at 8:34. Trott took a pass from sophomore Brett Pimental (East Falmouth, Mass.) and beat Suffolk sophomore netminder Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) for his fourth goal of the season.

Rose made 30 saves for the Rams while Enloe stopped 15 shots for the Seahawks. Suffolk went 2-for-3 on the power-play while Salve Regina failed to score on two PP chances.
