HOOKSETT, N.H. - Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH) had two goals and two assists and scored as time expired in regulation to lift Southern New Hampshire University to a 5-5 ice hockey tie with Suffolk University Monday night at The Ice Den. The Penmen close out the regular season 9-12-2, while the Rams are now 8-14-3 overall.
Troy Maybury (South Portland, ME) had a goal and an assist for the Penmen, while Doug Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) and John Frey (Westminster, CO) also had goals for SNHU. Niles Moore led Suffolk with two goals and an assist.
Suffolk scored the first four goals of the game and held a 4-1 lead after two periods. The Penmen cut the lead to 4-2 at the 4:01 mark of the third when Frey scored on a power play, but the Rams would reclaim a three-goal advantage 1:23 later when Conor Toomey scored on an assist from Kyle Cook.
The Penmen cut the gap to 5-4 with a pair of power play goals. Maybury made it 5-3 at the 9:17 mark, then Boulanger scored in the final second of a power play with 4:49 remaining. Southern New Hampshire would pull netminder Todd Rowley (Billerica, MA) with 41 seconds to play. Bryant would score the game-tying goal as time expired, firing the puck out of a crowd and past Suffolk goalie Jeff Rose. Both teams would get a pair of shots on goal in the five-minute overtime but couldn't find the back of the net.
John Rocchio and Cook recorded power play goals 1:51 apart late in the first period to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Moore would score twice in a 3:08 span early in the second period, his second goal 6:16 into the frame upping the Ram advantage to 4-0. The Penmen would get on the board 58 seconds before the second intermission when Bryant scored on a power play on a feed from Ryan DiBartolomeo (Leominster, MA).
Rowley and Shane Brooks (Kennebunk, ME) platooned in goal for SNHU and combined to make 22 saves. Rose went the distance in goal for Suffolk and stopped 33 shots as the Penmen generated a 38-27 shot advantage. Both teams were effective on the power play, with the Penmen 4-7 with the extra attacker while Suffolk was 3-8.
