Men’s Golf Trio Grabs All-CCC, Sakuru Scholar-Athlete

CCC RELEASE

BEVELRY, Mass. – Suffolk men's golf saw a historic number of student-athletes recognized by the Commonwealth Coast Conference as the trio of Cameron SinopoliChristopher Sinopoli and Vijay Sakuru earned All-CCC with Sakuru earning Scholar-Athlete accolades, the league office announced Monday morning.

Voting for the All-CCC Teams and major awards was conducted by the eight CCC men's golf head coaches during the week following the 2023 CCC Championship.

The threesome is the largest group of Rams to be recognized by the league in the same season surpassing the previous mark of two Suffolk student-athletes, set by Cameron Sinopoli and Sakuru a year ago. Overall, just eight golfers have combined for 11 all-league awards in the blue-and-gold's all-time annals -- eight from the CCC and three by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Five of the Rams' eight CCC honors have come during the Ken DiMaggio era.

The trio aided to the Rams' fourth-place performance at the 2023 CCC Championships Oct. 19-20 at Highfields Golf Club in Grafton, Massachusetts.

Sakuru not only earned first-team honors for the second straight season, another first for a Suffolk men's golfer, but took home Scholar-Athlete distinction, awarded tom a student-athlete who is either graduating or has exhausted her eligibility and has excelled both on the course and in the classroom. Academically, the Bangalore, India native maintained a 3.722 GPA, while working towards his Bachelor's degree in Big Data & Business. A year ago, he secured College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, the first men's golfer in program history to do so. On the links, Sakuru was a staple in Suffolk's line-up throughout the season. At the CCC Championships he shot a two-day 159 to claim 15th in the 40-golfer field.

Cameron Sinopoli picked up his second consecutive second-team selection after a stellar fall senior season. The Marlborough, Massachusetts's product's highlight came at the conference championships where he tied a program-best 18-hole CCC Championship mark of 75 and finished the two-day event with a Suffolk CCC Championship 36-record of 153 to share eighth.

Sakuru and Sinopoli are the only Rams to have multiple all-league distinctions on their athletic resumes in Suffolk men's golf's history.

Christopher Sinopoli became the youngest blue-and-gold men's golfer to collect an all-league honor with a third-team nod. The recognition comes on the heels of a season in which the Marlborough, Massachusetts, native shared 21st at the conference championships with a 163. His best performance of the year came in Suffolk's season debut, a 319-339 head-to-head win over Wentworth where Sinopoli captured third with a card of 81 in the 12-golfer field.

With the fall season in the books, Suffolk men's golf is idle until the spring slate, which will be announced following the New Year.
