Men’s Golf Claims Eighth at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Paced by one of the best individual performances by a Rams golfer in recent history, Suffolk men's golf turned in an eighth-place performance at the Bowdoin Invitational over the weekend at the Brunswick Golf Club.

Mauro Stanchieri was the main source for Suffolk's success. The junior from Venezuela sat atop the 80-golfer field after the first day in Vacation Land with an even par of 72. A day later, he shot a 76 to complete the two-day tournament with a 148, just four over par. That card put the Ram in a three-way tie for first alongside Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) counterpart Tyler Baker of Endicott and Trinity's Nicholas Li.

Jake Zirlin found his way in a share for 34th. The sophomore, who hails from Sleepy Hollow, Illinois, shot a 159 (+15) over the pair of days. He held 51st after the first day of play with an 84 and shot nine strokes better, 75, on the second day. The three over par is the lowest of Zirlin's collegiate career.

Juniors Vijay Sakuru and Cameron Sinopoli tied for 42nd, as both sported a 164 two-day card. Like Zirlin, Sakuru carded a 75 on Sunday, also a collegiate best 18-hole showing for the Bangalor, India native.

Freshman Christopher Sinopoli rounded out the Rams on the course with a 166, good for sole possession of 59th.

As a team, Suffolk sat in ninth after the first day on the green with a 323. The Rams shaved 16 strokes off their day two score, the fourth-best amongst their opposition on the second day of the green,  for a total team score of 630, good for eight in the 15-team field.

Suffolk has three days to prep for the CCC Qualifier, that was rescheduled for this upcoming Thursday, Sept. 29 at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
