Golf Finishes 16th at Blazers Invitational

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – In its first two-day competition of 2015, the Suffolk golf team placed 16th overall at the Blazer Fall Invitational, hosted at the Elmcrest Country Club Sunday afternoon. 

The Rams carded a team score of 340 over the final 18 holes, paired with 344 in the first round, to finish with a combined 684 for 16th-place in the 21 team event hosted by Elms College. Matt Rosenberg, Mark Fusco, Patrick Hambleton, Stephen Ferrante and Marcos Baistrocchi competed for Suffolk, with Rosenberg leading the pack. 

Rosenberg was off to a fast start on the par-70, 6,347-yard course, putting up a +5 on day. In the second round, the senior fired a 87, for a 167 total, which put him in a tie for 59th overall in the event. 

Fusco and Hambleton finished with identical strokes, carding 172 (+32) each. Fusco put  up scores of 85 and 87 over the course of competition, while Hambleton tallied back-to-back scores of 86 as the juniors tied for 67th. 

Ferrante finished one stroke behind his teammates Fusco and Hambleton as his best 18 holes came on the second day of competition when he posted an 80. The freshman carded a 93 on day one, for a 173 total, putting him in a tie for 71st. 

Baistrocchi bounced back after a first round of 97 as the sophomore put up a 92 on the second day to place 86th. 

Suffolk will take this next weekend off and return to action with midweek competition Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the Saint's Invitational.
