Golf Places Fifth In GNAC Tournament

The Suffolk University Golf team placed fifth overall in the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament.

Suffolk finished with an overall score of 618 as they shot a 618 scoring with a 309 on each day.

Senior Tim Benedetto (Peabody, Mass.) finished tie for sixth with the top individual score for Suffolk. Bendetto shot a 70 on day two to finish on par on the course for the day. He also scored a 77 on day one.  For his efforts Benedetto was named a second team All-Conference selection with his placement.

Junior Mike Rockwell (Walpole, Mass.) finished with the second best score for Suffolk as he put together a two day total of 153. Rockwell was Suffolk's top shooter on day one scoring a 76. He put together a score of 77 on day two. Rockwell finished 14th overall.

Rounding out the field for Suffolk was junior Matt Rosenberg (Needham, Mass.) who scored a 158 over two days. Senior Luke Ferrari (Milton, Mass.) averaged a score of 80 over the two days as he placed 26th overall. Senior Jack Davis (Milton, Mass.) completed the day two event for Suffolk with a 176 score.

Rhode Island College finished with the best team score of 587 to win their fourth straight GNAC championship.

The event was hosted by Suffolk University at Ponkapoag Golf Course in Canton, Mass..

Junior Jonathan Cooper won the individual medalist award as he was the tournament's best player scoring a 142 combined. Cooper finished day one even with a score of 70 as he finished day two with a score of 72.

Suffolk will round out their 2014 fall schedule as they head to Brewster this upcoming weekend to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) championships.
