BOSTON – Suffolk men's basketball's Keenan Robertson became the second player in program history to earn an all-region recognition from D3hoops.com as the senior small forward was named to the All-Region II Second-Team, the national organization announced Tuesday.
The honor comes behind an impressive offensive output in which he proved to be one of the biggest scoring threats in the not only the region, but NCAA Division III this season with 22.8 points per game, the 13th-most in the county. The 20-plus point average came behind a 56.4 conversation rate from the floor that included a 42.9 connection rate from behind-the-arc.
The Rochester, New York, native produced double figures in scoring in all, but one of Suffolk's 28 games this season. The 6-foot-5 small forward had 18 20-point performances, six 30-plus point ventures and an unforgettable 43-point showing in the Conference of New England (CNE) Semifinals at Endicott, Feb. 27. That scoring show remains 15th on the single-game list in DIII this year.
Robertson led the way on the defensive side of the ball as well with 7.4 rebounds per outing and 0.7 stelas per contest.
The captain was instrumental to Suffolk's second straight CNE Championship contest appearance, in which the Rams fell one-point shy of wearing the conference crown.
Robertson was one of three CNE student-athletes to make the list as Endicott's Marcus Montagnino and Western New England's Tim Restall were named to the first-team. WNE's head coach Colin Tabb was also recognized as Region II's Coach of the Year.
The accolade is the second of Robertson's senior season as he was selected to the CNE First-Team for the third consecutive campaign, a first for a Ram in the program's record books. He is the second-ever Suffolk men's basketball player to garner a spot on the D3hoops.com All-Region team since they were awarded in 2001-02.
Players were nominated for the recognition on the 24th-edition of the D3hoops.com all-region teams by Sports Information Directors. There were 789 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to a number of SIDs, as well as D3hoops.com staff and contributors, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
DIII basketball is organized into 10 regions. A region with 40 teams or more has three All-Region teams honored, while a region with fewer than 40 teams has a first and second team.
Players that have been named D3hoops.coom All-Region are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams, which will be released Saturday, March 22 at the national championship game.
