BOSTON – Out of a tied game at half, Suffolk men's basketball used a decisive 57-29 second stanza to storm by the University of New England, 92-64, in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk's early nine-point edge remained in the Rams favor' 26-17 at the 7:17 mark. The Nor'Easters managed to storm back behind 13 unanswered points to sneak in front, 30-26.  

The lead would flip-flop with the visitors in front, 35-33, with 1:13 to go before halftime. Jake Gomez leveled the playing field at 35-all when he turned a Keenan Robertson pass into two points to send the teams into the locker room even.  

Cole LeVangie sunk a triple, his second of the night to regain the upperhand for the host. The Rams did not look back as they lengthened the lead to double digits in the first six minutes and went on to make it a 20-plus point gap, 76-55, with 6:55 to play. 

Suffolk did not take its foot off the gas pedal as it pushed the distance to as many as 30 to coast to the 92-64 conference victory. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Danny Yardemian filled the stat sheet with 20 points on an 8-for-11 showing from the floor with seven boards, eight assists, three steals and two blocks. 
  • Keenan Robertson contributed a game-high 21 points behind a 6-for-9 showing from the floor and an 8-for-11 effort from the charity stripe. The senior added four caroms and four dimes. 
  • Levangie assembled a 16-poin, four-board, three-time, three-swat, two-takeaway effort. 
  • Jake Gomez provided 14 points, eight rebounds, one block, one assist and one steal. 
  • Nick Verdile rounded out the players in double figures with 12 points all from 3-point land as the sophomore shot 4-for-8 from downtown. He added three boards, one helper and one steal. 
  • Suffolk shot 56.7 percent (34-60) on the night, 42.9 percent (9-21) from behind-the-arc and 75.0 percent (15-20) from the line. 
  • The Rams outrebounded the Nor'Easters, 39-30. 
  • Suffolk poured in 48 points in the paint. 
  • The Rams turned UNE's 15 turnovers into 20 points. 
  • Suffolk capitalized on its eight offensive boards with 11 second chance points.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk took a 16-12 edge in the all-time series. 
  • The Rams have bested the Nor'Easters in back-to-back battles for the first time since winning three in a row from Jan. 18, 2023 through Jan. 4, 2024. 
  • Suffolk improved to 8-6 in Boston versus UNE. 
  • The Rams are now 6-2 against UNE in the Jeff Juron era. 
  • The blue-and-gold's starting five all scored in double figures for the second straight game. 
  • Yardemian matched a personal-best eight assists and had a career-high two blocks. 
  • LeVangie blocked a personal-best three shots.
