WNE Ends Men’s Basketball Streak, 78-65

BOSTON – Suffolk men's basketball's saw its four-game win streak come to an end Wednesday night as Western New England got hot from 3-point range in the second half to take down the Rams, 78-65, in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The Golden Bears' 66.7 (8-12) conversion rate from 3-point land in last 20 minutes proved to be the difference maker.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 65 | Western New England 78
RECORDS: Suffolk (11-8, 7-5 CCC) | Western New England (15-5, 10-2 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first five minutes. Once the Golden Bears' offense got going, the Rams remained in front, 11-8, before six unanswered WNE points flipped the script, 14-11, and forced Jeff Juron to use his first time out of the game.

Out of the huddle, the Rams outscored the Golden Bears, 17-7, to restore the advantage and grab its largest lead of the half, 29-22, with just under five minutes left in the first.

WNE charged back as it put up eight consecutive points to go up, 30-29, at the 2:22 mark.

Cole LeVangie knocked down trey to regain the upper hand for the blue-and-gold yet again. The tale of the back-and-forth affair continued as the score leveled for the second time, before Danny Yardemian banked in a lay-up to send the Rams into the locker room up 34-32.

The lead flipped flopped five times and the playing field leveled once in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza.

Three triples in a row from WNE's Brian Geitner stopped the see-saw affair and sparked a shooting show by the visitors. The Golden Bears poured in six buckets from downtown to build a comfortable 67-51 cushion with 6:45 left on the clock.

The gap grew to as many as 20, twice, with the last at 74-54 with just under four minutes to play. That distance proved too much ground for Suffolk to make up and the Golden Bears walked away with the conference victory.
