Men’s Basketball Ends Road Trip with 61-57 Win at Curry

MILTON, Mass. – Suffolk men's basketball reentered the win column Tuesday night as it capped off a three-game road swing with a 61-57 victory over Curry at Katz Gymnasium.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 61 | Curry 57
RECORDS: Suffolk (14-8, 9-6 CCC) | Curry (4-18, 2-13 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Out of a 16-all tie at the 11:43 mark, Curry scored seven straight to take a 20-16 lead that forced Suffolk into a timeout.

Out of the break, the Colonels' Jason Romans poured in a lay-up to put the visitors in a six-point, 22-16 hole.

Suffolk climbed its way out of the deficit by scoring 14 unanswered points to close out the opening half and go into the locker room up 32-24.

The late Rams rally carried into the second stanza to push the advantage to double figures, 34-24, with 18:16 on the clock.

The game of runs continued and for every comeback attempt Curry made the Rams responded with appropriate hoops of their own to remain in front.

Things got interesting with 8:42 to go when Angelo Sardegna knocked down a trey before making a lay-up to cut the gap to one, 44-43.

Suffolk put up six points in a row to restore a two-possession margin, 50-43, with just under six minutes to go.

Curry continued to keep the Rams on their toes down the stretch especially when Lowelle Torres converted a traditional 3-point play trimmed the cushion to two, 59-57, with 13 seconds remaining.

Keenan Robertson was fouled out of a blue-and-gold timeout and the sophomore sunk a pair of free throws to push the edge to four.

The Colonels had 12 seconds to work with and Sardegna put up a three. That shot was off the mark as well as the offensive put back, which allowed Suffolk to lock up the win.
