BOSTON – Suffolk men's basketball pushed its win streak to five Saturday afternoon as it edged Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) counterpart Endicott, 83-77, at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 83 | Endicott 77
RECORDS: Suffolk (11-6, 6-4 CCC) | Endicott (11-6, 7-3 CCC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Endicott, who poured in the first points of the day, a triple from Jalen Echevarria, managed to maintain the advantage through the first 20 minutes. Opening half action did stay within a pair of possessions though and Suffolk went into the locker room down just four, 32-28.
Back-and-forth action made up the first eight minutes of the second stanza, which kept the Gulls ahead by one, 43-42.
Keenan Robertson's lay-up at the 11:36 mark pushed the blue-and-gold in front for the first time on the afternoon. Over the next three minutes, the lead would flip-flop before landing back in Suffolk's favor when Robertson sunk a trey with 8:11 remaining. The sophomore's long ball, his first of the game, was a part of a Rams' 10-0 run that sent Suffolk ahead, 58-50.
This time it was Endicott's turn to play catch-up. Instead, the teams returned to the see-saw affair that consumed the entire first half and the beginning of the second.
With less than 30 seconds to go, the Gulls used quick shots from behind-the-arc to put a dent in the gap and Drew Brown made one to do just that as it trimmed the distance down to four, 79-75, with 17 seconds on the clock.
Thankfully, Aidan Sullivan and Cole LeVangie did their jobs when they were sent to the free throw line to secure the win.
