Men’s Basketball Routs Regis, 84-58, on Senior Day

BOSTON– Five different players produced double figures in scoring as Suffolk men's basketball handled Regis, 84-58, Saturday afternoon in the Rams regular-season finale at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 84 | Regis 58
RECORDS: Suffolk (14-11, 6-5 GNAC) | Regis (8-17, 4-7 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Action looked like a three-point shootout in the first few minutes as each team's first buckets came from downtown to keep things deadlocked at 6-all two minutes in.

Jonathan Eng kept Suffolk hot from behind-the-arc as the senior sunk a pair of triples to make a four-point game, 14-10.

Out of a Pride timeout, Nate Hale added a spark off the bench. The Rams' reserve scored eight unanswered points of his own and the gap ballooned to double figures, 24-14, at the 10:14 minute mark.

Regis used another break in an attempt to slow down Suffolk. The huddle did not help, however, as the Rams continue to pour on the points, outscoring the visitors 17-7, to double the distance, 41-21, with 2:38 to go before halftime.

Consecutive hoops from Hale and William Rowe extended matters to 24, but a late Regis basketball cut things down to 22, 45-23, in the blue-and-gold's favor as the teams headed to the locker room.

Seven straight points from Suffolk opened the second stanza. That stretch, which was capped off by Eng's fourth trey of the afternoon, lengthened the margin to 29, 52-23.

From there, the Rams' advantage grew to 30 before escalating to 41, 71-30, with 7:31 left on the clock.

It was business as usual for Suffolk as it maintained a 30-plus point cushion the rest of the way.

The four-member senior class of Thomas Duffy, Eng, George Grillakis and Cameron Powers, built a 78-43 lead before exciting their final game on Smith Court to a standing ovation with 2:59 to go.

Demitri Barbosa had hot hands off the bench in the final two minutes, netting three triples on three consecutive possessions to give the Pride a boost. The ground was too much to make up, however, and the score stayed in favor of Suffolk at the final buzzer, 84-58.
