BOSTON – Back from its Florida trip, the Suffolk men's basketball team shifts its attention to second semester, which is set to get underway Thursday, Jan. 3 with a Beantown battle at UMass Boston at 7:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Suffolk men's basketball team capped off the 2018 portion of its schedule with an offensive onslaught over Wells paced by Alex Jacovides as the Rams cruised past the Express, 82-51, to wrap up action at the Naples Shootout Sunday night at the Community School of Naples.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk split action at the Naples Shootout to enter 2019 6-5 overall. 

The Rams' 78.3 ppg offense has received constant contributions from Thomas Duffy (14.7 ppg), Brendan Mulson (14.7 ppg) and Michael Hagopian (11.5 ppg) this season with an added boost by Alex Jacovides (9.2 ppg) as of late.

Steven DiPrizio has teamed up with Mulson to anchor Suffolk on the glass with the former pulling down 5.4 rpg and the latter grabbing 5.3 rpg, respectively. Collectively, the Rams' get 37.3 rpg as a team.

BEACONS BREAKDOWN
UMass Boston (6-4) has been idle since before holidays with its last action coming in a 74-62 win over Wentworth Dec. 14. 

Javaris Hill is the main ingredient on both sides of the ball for the Beacons with the freshman forward providing 12.9 ppg and 6.9 rpg. Sophomore Michael Boyd joins the underclassman in double digits with 10.9 ppg to his credit with classmate Charles Mitchell on the cusp of double figures with 9.8 ppg. 

As a team, UMass averages 75.3 ppg and 43.1 rpg with Kevin Nunez pitching in 6.7 rpg to the effort.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Thursday's tilt marks the 29th meeting between the Rams and Beacons since the inaugural matchup in 1990.
  • UMass Boston holds a commanding 20-9 series lead over Suffolk.
  • The Rams earned their first win over the Beacons since 2007 last season and first victory over UMB in the Jeff Juron era.

Suffolk takes the weekend off to prep for conference competition, which is set to begin in front of the Rams home crowd when Regis stops by Regan Gymnasium Wednesday, Jan. 9 for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
