Duffy Tabbed GNAC All-Tournament Team

BOSTON – Thomas Duffy of the Suffolk men's basketball team has been named to the 2018 GNAC Men's Basketball All-Tournament team after a stellar performance helping the Rams to the conference semifinals.

Duffy helped Suffolk to its best conference campaign since 2005-06 (9-9) with a 9-7 league ledger to seal up the Rams' sixth straight trip to the postseason.

As the sixth seed, the highest in the conference's seed of eight in the Jeff Juron era and since sitting sixth in 2013, Duffy and Suffolk headed to third-seeded Saint Joseph's (Maine) Tuesday, Feb. 20 for the quarterfinals.  The Fairfield, Connecticut, native was a main ingredient to Suffolk's 69-65 upset. His 22-point performance came off an 8-for-13 showing from the field, 2-for-3 effort from downtown and a 4-for-5 connection rate at the foul line. He led the Rams on the glass with seven boards and dished out three dimes.

Two days later, in Suffolk's first semifinal appearances since 2007 and fourth overall, Duffy poured in 33 points including 11 over the final five minutes, but the Rams fell just short at second-seeded Johnson & Wales, 80-74. His game-high offensive output came off an impressive 68.4 shooting percentage (13-19) from the field, 5-for-6 showing at the line and a 2-for-4 effort from behind-the arc. He recorded four handouts to go along with three steals and three boards. The guard set multiple Rams records in the outing as his points (33), field goals made (13) and field goals attempted (19) all mark highs for Suffolk in the conference tournament in 20 overall games over 15 trips.

Over the two games, Duffy averaged 27.5 ppg, shot 65.6 percent (21-32) from the field, 51.7 percent (4-7) from three-point land and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the charity stripe. He tallied 5.0 rpg (10), 3.5 apg and 1.5 spg.

He is joined on the all-tournament team by Lasell's Stefan Masciarelli, Brian Hogan-Gary and Jarell Lawson of Johnson & Wales and two members of the Albertus Magnus team. Lawson was tabbed the tournament MVP.

Duffy had a standout sophomore season. He dropped double digits in scoring in all, but two of Suffolk's 27 games, surpassing 20 points 12 times and 30 once. He concluded the year with 455 total points to average a team-high 16.9 ppg, which is good for seventh in the league.  He also led the way in assists, dishing out 3.7 apg, while sitting second on the glass with 4.7 rpg.

Duffy's individual success aided to Suffolk's most successful season since 2001-02 (17-11) as the team wrapped up Juron's third year on the Rams' bench at 15-12 overall.
