McLean’s Buzzer Beater Leads Men’s Basketball Past Rivier, 53-51

NASHUA, N.H. - Sophomore Matt McLean hit a jump shot as time expired to give the Suffolk men's basketball team a 53-51 victory over the Raiders of Rivier inside Muldoon Gymnasium in GNAC action Saturday afternoon.  

The loss sends Rivier to 2-4 in league play and an overall mark of 2-11. Suffolk, meanwhile, earns its fourth win of the season (4-8) and its second conference victory (2-3 GNAC).   

McLean finished with eight points, including the two most important ones, in a reserve effort for the Rams. Senior Jake Meister was the overall team leader in points with 13 and junior Matt Duquette added 10 and six rebounds in the win. 

Senior Anthony Simmons knocked down 7-of-13 for a game high of 17 points as he was the lone Raider to reach double-digits. Both junior Kevin Francis and senior Edward Soucie (South pulled down eight rebounds. 

Both teams will be back in GNAC action when they return to the court. The Raiders will travel to Saint Joseph's College for a 7pm tip-off on Tuesday evening while Suffolk will be traveling to Norwich University on Wednesday night.
