JWU Rolls Past Suffolk 97-60 In GNAC Action

The Johnson & Wales University Wildcats cruised to a 97-60 victory over Suffolk University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball action on Wednesday evening.

The combination of juniors Quarry Greenaway (Westchester, N.Y.) and Tom Garrick (Seekonk, Mass.) combined for 61 points in the victory for the Wildcats who improve to a 16-4 mark on the year and 11-2 record in GNAC play.

Greenaway finished the evening scoring 34 points on an 11-for-20 effort from the field in the contest. He had a monster first half shooting at a 7-for-11 clip from the field, including a pair of three points to enter the break with 24 points.

The Wildcats came out quickly right out of the gates as they built a 20-3 lead in the opening five and a half minutes of play in the game.

Suffolk would chip away in to the deficit as they would get the margin down to six points later in the half when freshman Quinn McCartney (LaCrosse, Wis.) knocked down one of two free throws to make it a 30-24 game with seven minutes remaining in the opening period.

Garrick would net 19 points in the second half to help keep the Wildcats rolling through the second half of action. He would connect at an 8-for-11 clip in the period, while also collecting nine rebounds in the half to help pace things for the visitors. Garrick would finish the contest with a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Wildcats held a 43-32 edge on the glass in the game and 36-18 edge in points in the paints.

Sophomore Matt Duquette (Swampscott, Mass.) finished just shy of a double-double for Suffolk as he led the team with 18 points and also collected a team-high nine rebounds in the setback.

Senior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) finished with 11 points highlighted by a 9-for-12 performance from the free-throw line.

Both teams will be back in conference action on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales will travel to Emmanuel College for a 1:00pm tip-off with the Saints.

Suffolk (7-11, 4-7 GNAC) will head to New Haven to take on Albertus Magnus College at 3:00pm.
