Men's Basketball Roll With 73-68 Victory

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team defeated Rivier University 73-68 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon in front of a packed Regan Gymnasium as part of Alumni Day.

Three players finished the day with double digit scoring totals for Suffolk highlighted by senior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) who scored a game-high 21 points to pace the Rams offense.

Junior Jake Meister (Madison, N.J.) was five assists shy of a triple-double as he netted 19 points on 5-for-10 shooting from three-point land while also leading all rebounders with 12 in the game.

Junior Brandon Barboza (Riverside, R.I.) also added 16 points, as he was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc in the opening twenty minutes for 13 first half points.

Suffolk was able to hold the lead for the majority of the contest after going ahead just two minutes into the opening half.

After chipping away into their deficit, Rivier would manage to make it a one possession game with 1:43 remaining when senior Jake Nelson (Nashua, N.H.) knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a 71-68 game.

After a trio of defensive stops junior Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) would seal the victory for Suffolk as he sunk both of his free throws in the closing twenty seconds.

Unni finished the game with eight points for Suffolk.Freshmen David Lorden (Pepperell, Mass.) and Kywane Thomas (Hartford, Conn.) each scored 14 points in the setback for Rivier.

The victory pulls Suffolk even to a 4-4 mark in conference play and 7-8 overall.

They'll be back in GNAC action on Monday as they travel to Norwich University for a 3:00pm tip-off with the Cadets.
