Emerson Tops Men's Basketball 79-64

The Emerson College Lions defeated the Suffolk University Men's Basketball team 79-64 to start the second half of the 2014-15 season in the Regan Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) led all players with 30 points in the setback for Suffolk who fall to a 6-5 overall record on the season.

Emerson opened the game with a strong first half that saw them outscore Suffolk by a 48-22 margin in the opening twenty minutes of play. The Lions finished the half shooting at a 50-percent clip as a team (17-for-34) from the floor.

Junior Michael Thorpe (Newton, Mass.) helped pace the Lions' offense with a team-high 22 points in the contest as he was 8-for-14 from the field in the contest. Four Emerson players alongside Thorpe finished with double-digit scoring totals in the victory.

Junior Ryan Clinesmith (New York, N.Y.) chipped with with 16 points, while junior Brian Hurley (South Boston, Mass.) and senior Eli Kell-Abrams (Berkeley, Calif.) each added 11 point totals.

Nwadike finished the game shooting at a 14-for-15 clip from the free-throw line in the game for Suffolk. Junior Jake Meister (Madison, N.J.) scored 12 points while collecting a team-high eight rebounds.

Emerson held a 46-32 edge on the glass in the game as three players recorded at least seven boards for the Lions. Thorphe finished with seven rebounds while also adding three assists, three steals and a pair of blocks.

The victory moves Emerson to a 6-5 overall mark on the year. They will be back in action on Wednesday evening when they host NEWMAC foe Babson College at 7:00pm.

Suffolk will be back on the court on Tuesday evening when they host Emmanuel College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup with a 7:00pm tip-off in the Regan Gymnasium.
