Albertus Snaps Men's Basketball's Four Game Win Streak

The Albertus Magnus College Falcons won their third straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest with a 98-84 victory over the Suffolk University Men's Basketball team on Saturday afternoon in the Regan Gymnasium.

Albertus put together a 21-2 run midway through the second half to space themselves as they improve to a 6-1overall record on the season. The Falcons entered the game ranked 16th nationally in the latest D3Hoops.com poll.

Senior Tavon Sledge (Spring Valley, N.Y.) finished with a team-high 25 points off the bench in the win for Albertus. Sledge was one of five players to finish with double digit scoring totals for Albertus in the game.

Senior Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) recorded a double-double leading all players with 14 rebounds to go along with 16 points while senior Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored 19.

Sophomore Matt Duquette (Swampscott, Mass.) posted a career-high 25 points in the setback for Suffolk. Duquette had a strong first half going 6-for-11 from the field to finish with 14 points in the opening 20 minutes as Suffolk trailed Albertus by just two points at 44-42.

Duquette would open the second half scoring five straight points in the first ninety-three seconds of the period to put Suffolk up with a brief lead at 47-46.

He would later put in back to back layups to make it a 53-53 contest with 14 minutes remaining in regulation.

Sledge would go to the line on the following possession knocking down one of two free throws to put Albertus up by a point as they would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the contest. Sledge would score 13 of his game total in the second period highlighted by 6-for10 shooting from the line in the half.

Junior James Jennings (Bridgeport, Conn.) score 10 of his game's 12 points in the second half as he was 3-for-4 from the field including 2-for-2 from three-point land in the period.

Senior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) scored 18 in the setback for Suffolk as he also finished with team-highs with eight rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Brandon Barboza (Riverside, R.I.) also chipped in with 10 points for Suffolk.

Senior Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished leading all players with seven assists while he also scored eight points for the Falcons.  Senior Julian Sanders (Trumbull, Conn.) also added 10 points.

Albertus will be back in action next Saturday when they host New Jersey City at 3:00pm.

The loss snapped Suffolk's four game winning streak as they fall to 5-4 heading into the winter break.

They are now 2-1 in GNAC play. Suffolk will be idle until Sunday January 4 when they host crosstown rival Emerson College in the Regan Gymnasium at 1:00pm.
