Duquette's Double Double Leads Men's Basketball to Third Straight Win

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team won their third straight game defeating the Norwich University Cadets 80-58 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday evening in the Regan Gymnasium.

Five players finished the evening scoring double digit point totals for Suffolk as they improve to a 4-3 mark on the season winning their first conference game of the year.

Sophomore Matt Duquette (Swampscott, Mass.) collected his second double-double of the season scoring a game-high 20 points as he also led all players with 13 rebounds in the victory for Suffolk.

Suffolk took control early on as they built a 14-point lead heading into halftime as junior Jake Meister (Madison, N.J.) scored all of his game total in the opening twenty minutes as the Rams took a 42-28 lead with them into the break.

In the opening two minutes of the second half, Suffolk would continue to build their lead scoring eight straight points as Duquette put in the first four before senior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) would connect on a pair of field goals to build the lead.

Sophomore Brandon Barboza (Riverside, R.I.) would build the lead to 25 points when he nailed one of his two three-pointers in the half to make it a 67-42 game with seven minutes remaining. Barboza finished with 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field.

Junior Adam Chick (Northbrook, Ill.) finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds. Chick was one of three players to record two steals in the game. Suffolk forced 10 turnovers which they cashed in for 21 points in the game.

Nwadike continued his scoring touch as he put in 16 points as he's record double digit scoring totals in all seven contests this year.

Sophomore Kevin Ross (Ontario, Calif.) finished with a team-high 14 points for the Cadets. Ross was 6-for-10 from the field as he also finished with a game-high four steals.

Junior Alex Preckol (Westford, Mass.) scored 13 in the setback for Norwich as he had a team-high six rebounds.

Suffolk held a 59-40 edge in rebounds in the game. Suffolk also outscored Norwich by a 15-5 margin in second chance points in the win.

The loss drops Norwich to a 2-3 mark on the season. They'll be back in action on Saturday afternoon as part of their Huckenbury Classic when they host UMaine-Augusta at 6:00pm.

Suffolk will travel to Anna Maria College on Thursday evening as they take on the AMCATS in GNAC action at 7:00pm.
