Three basketball players were named as All-Conference selections by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for the 2013-14 season.
Alongside freshman Frantz Pinard (Arlington, Mass.) who named the GNAC's Rookie of the Year for Men's Basketball, junior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) was a third-team All-Conference selection.
Nwadike was Suffolk's leading scorer with a 17.7 points per game average, which was the seventh highest average among conference scorers. In 26 games this season, Nwadike was Suffolk's leading scorer in 14 of their games, registering at least 20 points in 11 of those games.
Sophomore Curtis Casella (Saugus, Mass.) was named to the league's All-Sportsmanship team. Casella appeared in all 26 games for Suffolk averaging 4.6 points per game off the bench. He scored a career-high 21 points on February 11, an 81-69 victory over Mount Ida College. Casella was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll for his performance the following week.
Suffolk finished the season with a 9-17 overall record. Suffolk was the number seven seed in this year's GNAC Tournament as they had a 6-12 record in GNAC play.
On the Women's Basketball side, senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) was a first team All-Conference selection, while junior Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) earned third-team honors/
For the second consecutive year Ruys was named one of the GNAC's top five players earning first team honors at forward. Ruys averaged 16.6 points per game in 23 games on the season. Ruys was the league's fifth leading scorer as she also recorded eight double-doubles on the season. Ruys also posted a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game for Suffolk. In four seasons Ruys was the second highest scorer in program history with 1,486 points scored in 102 games played. Ruys is Suffolk's all-time leader with 561 field goals made and an 81.1 percent shooting percentage from the free-throw line. Ruys has averaged 14.6 points per game throughout her career.
Quadri was a third team selection at forward. Quadri averaged 11.7 points per game including a 12.4 average in 11 conference games. Quadri shot at a 33.9-percent clip from beyond the three-point line on the season, the league's fifth highest average. She was Suffolk's leading scorer in seven games on the season. Through three seasons, Quadri has scored 777 career points for a 9.1 points per game average through 85 career games. She is second all-time in program history shooting at a 38.1-percent clip from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Katie Murray (Holden, Mass.) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team. Murray appeared in 25 games off the bench for Suffolk average 4.4 rebounds per game.
Suffolk finished the season with the fourth best record in GNAC play at a 9-3 mark. Suffolk was 16-10 overall during the 2013-14 season and will await Monday's selection call for the upcoming ECAC New England Division-III Championship Tournament. Suffolk will be looking to make their seventh straight appearance.
