Norwich Outlasts Men's Basketball, 75-70

The Norwich University Cadets were victorious in a must win regular season finale posting a 75-70 victory over Suffolk University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory the Cadets secure the number eight seed in the upcoming GNAC Playoff Tournament starting on Tuesday, while Suffolk will enter the eight-team single elimination tournament as the number seven seed.
 

Junior Evan Tullar (Chelsea, Vt.) led all scorers with a 24-point effort on 10-for-15 shooting from the field as the Cadets round out the 2013-14 regular season with a 4-14 mark in GNAC play and 6-19 overall record.

Saturday's setback finishes Suffolk at 9-16 and 6-12 within the conference.
 

Sophomore Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) scored a team-high 18 points for Suffolk as he was one of four Rams' players to record at least double digit scoring totals in the contest.

Sophomore Gary Gladdon (Boynton Beach, Fla.) scored 14 of his game's 18 points in the second half for the Cadets who managed to hold onto a three point lead with fifty-three seconds remaining in regulation.
 

Senior Nickolai Hauvoutis (Coral Springs, Fla.) connected on four consecutive free-throw attempts for the Cadets in the final sixteen seconds of regulation to secure the victory en route to a 12 point effort. Fellow classmate Tom McDonald (Groton, Mass.) also recorded 12 points in the victory.

 

Freshman Frantz Pinard (Arlington, Mass.) scored 15 points and collected a team-high seven rebounds on the day for Suffolk, while junior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) chipped in with 12 points. Sophomore Jake Meister (Madison, N.J.) added 10 points off the bench for the Rams.

 

Both teams will be on the road Tuesday evening with Norwich travelling to top seed Albertus Magnus College. Suffolk will head north to take on St. Joseph's College.
