Rams Downed by Wildcats 87-63

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team fell 87-63 to the Johnson and Wales Wildcats at home on Thursday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

The Wildcats were the first to get on the board but the Rams answered quickly with a three pointer by junior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) to even up the score. The Rams were looking to keep it a tight game until midway through the first half when Wildcats' sophomore Robert Lewis (Providence, R.I.) made a layup to put Johnson and Wales up 20-10. Despite their best efforts Suffolk was not able to close the gap going into halftime. Sophomore Curtis Cassella (Saugus, Mass.) netted a three-pointer to try and dimish the lead right at the buzzer to make it a 45-27 score into the half.

Suffolk came out of the second half looking to turn the game around. But with under five minutes left in the game senior Curtis Lucas (Providence, R.I.) made a layup to put the Wildcats up 80-55 which was their biggest lead of the night. Lucas would finish with a game high 24 points on the night.

Three players scored in the double digits for the Rams. Nwadike had a team high 17 points and team high six rebounds. Junior Matt Powers (Westwood, Mass.) netted 12 points on the night and was a perfect 4 for 4 on the free throw line and freshman Matt Duquette (Sawpscott, Mass.) pitched in with 10 points on the night.

The Wildcats outrebounded the Rams 42-32.

Johnson and Wales' sophomore Quarry Greenway (Westchester, N.Y.) would have the game's only double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

This loss drops the Rams to 9-10 overall and 5-7 in GNAC play. The Wildcats improve to 15-5 overall and 11-2 in conference action.

The Rams will be on the road on Saturday facing Lasell at 3pm in GNAC play. Johnson and Wales will host Emmanuel on Saturday at 1pm in GNAC action.
